Dear Maverick Family Member,
I hope this letter finds you well and filled with anticipation for the exciting journey that lies ahead. My name is Lauren Puls, and as the Assistant Director for The Office of Parent and Family Services at The University of Texas at Arlington, I wanted to extend a warm welcome to you. It brings me immense joy to know that you have chosen to join the Maverick Parent and Family Association, and I am thrilled to have you as a valued member of our close-knit community.
Whether our paths have crossed during New Maverick Orientation, one of our unforgettable signature events, or if we have yet to have the pleasure of meeting, I want to assure you that The Office of Parent and Family Services is here for you every step of the way throughout your students remarkable journey at UTA. By joining the Maverick Parent and Family Association, you become part of a vibrant network of parents and families who share a deep commitment to their student's success and the unwavering mission of UT Arlington.
Our mission at The Office of Parent & Family Services is to actively engage, educate, and support the entire family. We understand the significance of a smooth and enjoyable transition to college life for your family, and we are dedicated to providing you with invaluable advice, keeping you informed, and being readily available to address any questions or concerns you may have. To ensure that you and your family are well-prepared for your student's college journey, here are some suggested next steps:
Consider joining a community within the Maverick Family Connection Portal. We have over 16 different communities to choose from, so it is a great way to customize the information you want to receive from the Maverick Family Connection Portal. You can add yourself to a community by clicking the "Discover Communities" option on the left side of your dashboard.

Discuss MyMav Guest Access with your student. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) establishes privacy rights for students' educational records. Once the student attains the age of 18 or attends an institution of higher education, regardless of age, FERPA rights transfer for the parent to the student. Under FERPA, parents have no inherent rights of access to their students' education records. Students can grant permission for their family to access their education records by granting guest access (https://oit.uta.edu/projects/guest-access-mymav/help.php ) in MyMav.
Attend our family-centered events! The Office of Parent and Family Services kicks off the new academic year with an event during UTA's Welcome Week: Maverick Stampede, but we have many events and programs throughout the year for your family to enjoy. You can stay up to date on our upcoming events in the Maverick Family Connection Portal.
If you have any questions or concerns, you may call us at 817-272-2128 or email us at parents@uta.edu.
Go Mavericks!
